The Huntsman
I am a huntsman for the King,
a royal archer.
It is my duty to protect and proclaim
the name of the King,
in all the lands.
For my King is a good King.
He apportions kindness
to those who heed His call.
A rod and a bow,
to those who despise Him.
The King Himself has ordained
the name of my house,
and provides what I need,
to carry forth my cause.
He validates my commission.
He has thrown open the doors of the storehouse,
and allows me to partake of its fullness.
I am a huntsman for the King,
a royal archer!
In His time,
He Himself has provided
the stock for my allotment of arrows,
and commissioned me to fashion each one
for use in His royal service.
With humility, I examine each piece of stock,
to find its strength and weakness.
I fashion each one thoughtfully and carefully,
smoothing out the roughness,
and removing the imperfections,
so it may become straight and true,
lest it miss its intended mark.
I fashion each arrow with a specific purpose,
in accordance with the nature of its stock.
I do not fashion an arrow for distance,
when it is meant for accuracy.
I do not laden the arrow,
that is not meant for the weight.
Here am I!
A huntsman for the King,
and a royal archer.
In the course of time,
the stock the King hath given
are made into arrows,
and are smooth and are complete,
and useful for service.
I place them into my sack,
my quiver is full,
and I rejoice,
for a time.
But I am a huntsman for the King,
a royal archer!
I wield my bow in deference
to His will.
Soon, my ears will hearken
to His command.
With bittersweet tears
I will pull the arrows from my quiver.
One by one I will draw the bowstring,
and release my arrows over the face of the earth,
toward their intended mark,
and they will be gone.
And where they land I may not know,
but the King knows.
Haven’t my arrows always been made for this purpose?
What satisfaction I will have,
when I see my arrows fly through the air,
on their appointed missions,
as they were intended,
without blemish, straight and true,
for the honor and glory,
of my King.
