Amazed in Grace
I'm Amazed in grace,
And how sweet it could sound,
If it could stop the wretch I continue to be.
But I am prone to get lost,
and then I am bound,
to punish myself so mercilessly.
T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear,
And Grace my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear,
Just for the hour I first believed.
But now through many dangers, toils and snares,
That I have never overcome.
Though Grace has brought me to this point,
Is Grace enough to lead me home?
The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope should secure.
But His shield and portion I seem to doubt,
For as long as my life has endured.
Day by day my flesh and heart fail me,
And one day my life shall cease.
If I have trouble professing in the vail,
How can I ever enjoy His peace?
When you've been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
I've no less days to believe I've found grace,
Than when I first begun.
